Behind the Rear View Mirror

The inspiring story of how Shelley Streit defied the odds against her achieving success in life after a childhood spent in the child welfare system following experiences of abandonment, rejection, and abuse as a child. While Shelley could easily have slipped into a less-than-desirable lifestyle, she chose to forge ahead at every challenge or setback, each time taking one step closer to a richer and more successful life.

This book will take you along for the ride, as Shelley revisits some of the many detours she has travelled on her road of life during the past three decades—starting from the tender age of three up to the present day. You will learn that many of the detours she had to take were not of her choice or making, but that she was a driven and determined individual who refused to be held back.

Her story is both illustrative of the basic human instinct for survival and self-preservation as well as a clear indication of how the resilience which is ultimately required to achieve success in life involves equal parts emotional intelligence, mental toughness, and unfailing courage that re-frames every setback and failure as just another, surmountable detour on the incredible road of life.

Early Praise

A touching memoir that shines a light on overcoming adversity, and finding the gift in the struggles of life. Beyond The Rear View Mirror is a portrait of courage, letting go with love, and forgiveness.

Shelley’s is one of those stories you can’t pull away from. She has been through more than most people will ever experience in a lifetime, and has come through much stronger for it. She’s an inspiration.

Are you ready for a roller-coaster ride? This inspiring story will have you step into Shelley’s shoes—from child welfare and abuse to joy and success. Regardless of your background, you’ll gain insight on how to face and champion through any challenge facing you right now. You’ll gain new perspective on your own journey. A highly recommended read.

“Beyond the Rear View Mirror” is an exquisite example of personal transformation that transcends the ravages of abandonment, poor parenting and lack of support and role modelling that resulted in a life of wandering, painful experiences and harmful choices.  Through her transparent vulnerability in this book, Shelley proves that one can rise above life’s potholes to truly succeed through encouragement, determination, resourcefulness, resiliency and the power of positive choices!

I read your book in two sittings.  It is a very compelling story – you were right – I couldn’t put it down and when I had to – I couldn’t wait to get back to it.  You are amazing and I admire your intestinal fortitude. Underneath all the events in your life, your inner drive to be successful kept you going and I know you will always be successful. I also was very proud and in admiration of how you handled your own children. We all have our stuff and the most important thing is to be able to look past stuff and focus on what is most important. I was inspired to hear you were able to develop a relationship with your Mother-in-law – forgive and move on.  Ron sounds like a wonderful man – above all keep him and stay a family. You deserve a family and a good life and I think you have found your calling and place without a doubt. Go Girl – your are dynamite. I was wonderful to get to know you through your book.
